The National Fund for Research and Innovation for Development (FONRID) hosted the first edition of University Innovation Day at Thomas Sankara University.
The event, which was held on 17 July, provided a vibrant platform for showcasing the ingenuity of young innovators.
The initiative is part of FONRID’s broader commitment to fostering a thriving environment for research and innovation in higher education.
By celebrating student-led innovation, FONRID reaffirms its commitment to promoting inclusive, locally rooted research and innovation that addresses Burkina Faso’s socio-economic priorities.
The award not only honours individual excellence but also reflects the growing importance of university-based innovation in driving national development.
The highlight of the event was the student innovation competition, where the most promising project was awarded.
Pélagie Pendo Ilboudo emerged as the winner of the competition as her project met the standard for relevance to student economic empowerment.
She received a prize of 200,000 FCFA (US$358)

Beyond the award ceremony, this initiative illustrates a synergy of actions promoting academic excellence and innovative entrepreneurship.
FONRID remains committed to strengthening institutional support for university-led research, providing targeted funding for high-impact, socially relevant innovations, and encouraging applied research that responds directly to national development needs.
