Under the auspices of the Science Granting Councils Initiative in Sub-Saharan Africa (SGCI), the National Research Foundation (NRF) (South Africa) has been administering two multilateral research partnerships, the Covid-19 Africa Rapid Grant Fund (CARGF) and the O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chairs Initiative (ORTARChI). These significant partnerships are implemented in close conjunction with the 17 SGCI participating public funding agencies/councils, and several regional and international partners. On 23-27 October 2023, the two initiatives will host the CARGF Reflection and Foresight Convening and ORTARChI Annual Gathering in Pretoria, South Africa. Centering the CARGF grant recipients and the O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chairs, the primary objective of the two meetings is to celebrate and showcase the two initiatives and to provide a space for peer-learning, networking, and exploring avenues of collaboration amongst all the participants, which also include the SGCI participating councils and key stakeholders in Africa’s science ecosystem.
