Summary
To provide focused and transformative intervention in Public Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria through funding and effective project management
Council details
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is Nigeria’s leading agency for advancing research and innovation in public tertiary institutions. Through targeted interventions, TETFund ensures that research efforts translate into tangible solutions that improve lives and address national challenges.
Its strategic project management approach fosters impactful research in key areas such as water safety, energy access, and occupational health. These innovations directly benefit communities across Nigeria and support inclusive development.
TETFund plays a central role in strengthening Nigeria’s research ecosystem by building the capacity of institutions, researchers, and innovators nationwide. It provides both funding and technical support to ensure research outputs move beyond academia and contribute to real-world problem-solving.
Driving Innovation Through SGCI Participation
As Nigeria’s representative in the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI), TETFund has redefined how research is applied to create social and economic value. Its involvement in the SGCI has focused on making research more responsive to local community needs.
TETFund has partnered with Innov8 Hub to build capacity among Nigerian researchers. This collaboration provides mentorship, technical support, and practical training to help researchers convert ideas into viable innovations. The goal is to build an enabling environment where science and technology drive inclusive growth.
In July 2025, TETFund and Innov8 Hub hosted the SGCI Demo Day. This landmark event showcased Nigeria’s ability to turn academic research into market-ready solutions. It also demonstrated the country’s growing commitment to innovation and regional collaboration.
Commitment to Impactful Research
TETFund remains committed to advancing Nigeria’s position in African science, technology, and innovation. By strengthening tertiary institutions and empowering researchers, it promotes research that addresses national priorities and fosters sustainable development.
Through its SGCI partnership, TETFund continues to support transformative research with meaningful, measurable outcomes.
