The Managing Funded Research training programme is designed to address the critical needs of research managers across Africa. This practical, in-depth course equips participants with the tools needed to access, manage, and sustain research funding.

Through expert-led sessions, participants learn how to navigate complex funding landscapes, craft compelling proposals, and apply for innovation funding. The programme also explores major funding sources and how to align research goals with funders’ priorities.

Why This Training Matters

The Managing Funded Research training also emphasises crucial skills in project management, financial accountability, and sustainability strategies. It ensures long-term success for research initiatives. Additionally, the programme focuses on building effective partnerships and enhancing the communication of research impact. This empowerment enables research managers to secure diverse funding streams, boosting both the visibility and impact of their projects.

By adopting a holistic approach, Managing Funded Research training not only enhances individual competencies but also fosters the overall development of research infrastructure and innovation capacity within African universities. The training includes insights from the “Resource Mobilisation Toolkit for Scientific Research and Innovation Projects.” This guide, developed by the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA), is supported by the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
