o n\u00famero mais elevado de qualquer pa\u00eds do mundo.<\/p>\n\n<p>Para resolver o problema tanto nas zonas rurais como urbanas, os investigadores desenvolveram um dispositivo de filtragem alimentado por energia solar, que pode ser utilizado mesmo em zonas com pouca eletricidade.<\/p>\n\n<p>O dispositivo utiliza um biossensor para detetar organismos nocivos, enquanto um sistema de filtra\u00e7\u00e3o de tr\u00eas camadas aproveita os raios ultravioleta para purificar a \u00e1gua e remover quaisquer germes prejudiciais.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cO nosso objetivo \u00e9 prevenir doen\u00e7as e mortes transmitidas pela \u00e1gua\u201d, afirmou Victor Nwaugo, investigador principal e professor de polui\u00e7\u00e3o ambiental e sa\u00fade p\u00fablica na Universidade do Estado de Abia, na Nig\u00e9ria.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;O dispositivo biossensor purifica a \u00e1gua e deixa-a sempre pronta a beber&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<p>De acordo com <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/nigeria\/media\/5956\/file\/2021WASHNORM%20Infographics.pdf\">os n\u00fameros oficiais,<\/a> apenas dez por cento da popula\u00e7\u00e3o da Nig\u00e9ria tem acesso a servi\u00e7os b\u00e1sicos de \u00e1gua, saneamento e higiene.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;As pessoas que vivem nas zonas rurais s\u00e3o tr\u00eas vezes mais desfavorecidas do que as que vivem nas zonas urbanas&#8221;, afirma Nwaugo.<\/p>\n\n<p>Segundo ele, o filtro biossensor dur\u00e1vel e f\u00e1cil de usar dar\u00e1 \u00e0s pessoas dessas \u00e1reas rurais acesso a \u00e1gua pot\u00e1vel segura, reduzindo o risco de contrair doen\u00e7as transmitidas pela \u00e1gua.<\/p>\n\n<p>Ao contr\u00e1rio das solu\u00e7\u00f5es de \u00e1gua existentes que dependem da eletricidade da rede e de uma simples filtragem, o dispositivo combina a dete\u00e7\u00e3o de germes com a purifica\u00e7\u00e3o em v\u00e1rias fases, utilizando apenas energia solar.<\/p>\n\n<p>O dispositivo pode ser ligado \u00e0s torneiras das casas urbanas ou aos ribeiros, a principal fonte de \u00e1gua das comunidades rurais.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-research-for-impact\"><strong>Investiga\u00e7\u00e3o para o impacto<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>O projeto, apoiado por uma subven\u00e7\u00e3o de 250 000 d\u00f3lares da Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI), reflecte uma mudan\u00e7a na cultura de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o da Nig\u00e9ria, segundo Nwaugo.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;Antes, faz\u00edamos investiga\u00e7\u00e3o para publica\u00e7\u00e3o, mas agora estamos a fazer investiga\u00e7\u00e3o para ter impacto na sociedade&#8221;, afirmou.<\/p>\n\n<p>O filtro biossensor de Nwaugo e da sua equipa ganhou aten\u00e7\u00e3o em fevereiro passado na iniciativa Research for Impact (R4i), organizada pelo Fundo Fiduci\u00e1rio do Ensino Superior da Nig\u00e9ria (TETFund), uma ag\u00eancia nigeriana respons\u00e1vel pelo financiamento do ensino superior e pelo apoio a iniciativas de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n<p>Hadiza Ismail, diretora-adjunta do Centro de Investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e Desenvolvimento do TETFund, afirma que o R4i visa capacitar os investigadores para transformarem os seus resultados de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o em solu\u00e7\u00f5es inovadoras para problemas do mundo real.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;A iniciativa ajudar\u00e1 os investigadores a comercializar o seu trabalho e a criar um impacto na sociedade&#8221;, afirmou.<\/p>\n\n<p>Moses Olutoye, professor de engenharia qu\u00edmica especializado em investiga\u00e7\u00e3o sobre energias renov\u00e1veis na Universidade Federal de Tecnologia, em Minna, na Nig\u00e9ria, elogiou a inova\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;A energia solar \u00e9 abundante e est\u00e1 \u00e0 espera de ser aproveitada para uso individual, dom\u00e9stico e industrial&#8221;, afirmou.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;A energia solar pode ajudar os nigerianos e os investigadores a satisfazer as suas necessidades energ\u00e9ticas.
