Pourtant, les scientifiques sont de plus en plus pr\u00e9occup\u00e9s par les traces invisibles de m\u00e9dicaments qui s\u2019\u00e9coulent discr\u00e8tement dans les rivi\u00e8res et les r\u00e9seaux d\u2019eau potable, avec peu de moyens pour les arr\u00eater. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La chercheuse Selina Ama Saah, chimiste des mat\u00e9riaux au d\u00e9partement des sciences chimiques de l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/uenr.edu.gh\/\">Universit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9nergie et des ressources naturelles<\/a> du Ghana, et son \u00e9quipe d\u00e9veloppent un mat\u00e9riau \u00e0 faible co\u00fbt <em>pour pi\u00e9ger les polluants pharmaceutiques que les syst\u00e8mes de traitement conventionnels ne parviennent pas \u00e0 atteindre.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab Les produits pharmaceutiques sont con\u00e7us pour \u00eatre biologiquement actifs \u00bb, explique-t-elle.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab M\u00eame \u00e0 de tr\u00e8s faibles concentrations, ils peuvent avoir des effets impr\u00e9vus sur les organismes aquatiques, sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes et, potentiellement, sur la sant\u00e9 humaine au fil du temps. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Une menace cach\u00e9e et croissante<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La pollution pharmaceutique des masses d\u2019eau est de plus en plus d\u00e9tect\u00e9e \u00e0 travers l\u2019Afrique, pourtant elle fait rarement la une des journaux et n\u2019est surveill\u00e9e que de mani\u00e8re sporadique.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les h\u00f4pitaux, les m\u00e9nages, les fabricants de produits pharmaceutiques et le ruissellement agricole rejettent tous des r\u00e9sidus qui p\u00e9n\u00e8trent dans les cours d\u2019eau sans \u00eatre trait\u00e9s pour la plupart.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La pr\u00e9sence d\u2019antibiotiques dans les milieux aquatiques acc\u00e9l\u00e8re le d\u00e9veloppement de bact\u00e9ries r\u00e9sistantes aux m\u00e9dicaments, un probl\u00e8me que l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/antimicrobial-resistance#:~:text=As%20a%20result%20of%20drug,severe%20illness%2C%20disability%20and%20death.\">Organisation mondiale de la sant\u00e9<\/a> a qualifi\u00e9 de l\u2019une des plus grandes menaces pesant sur l\u2019humanit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans les r\u00e9gions en d\u00e9veloppement, l\u2019insuffisance des infrastructures d\u2019assainissement rend les communaut\u00e9s particuli\u00e8rement vuln\u00e9rables.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab Les syst\u00e8mes de traitement des eaux us\u00e9es sont souvent limit\u00e9s, ce qui signifie que de l\u2019eau charg\u00e9e de produits pharmaceutiques peut atteindre les communaut\u00e9s avec peu ou pas de traitement \u00bb, pr\u00e9cise Mme Saah.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Concevoir un mat\u00e9riau plus intelligent<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/DrSelinaAma_BODY.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25991\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/DrSelinaAma_BODY.jpg 400w, https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/DrSelinaAma_BODY-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/DrSelinaAma_BODY-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/DrSelinaAma_BODY-90x90.jpg 90w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Dr Selina Ama<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le projet de Mme Saah, intitul\u00e9 \u00ab <em>Sustainable Remediation of Pharmaceutical Residue Pollution in Water Bodies: Biochar Nanocomposite Adsorption Approach<\/em><em> <\/em><em>\u00bb<\/em> (Rem\u00e9diation durable de la pollution par les r\u00e9sidus pharmaceutiques dans les masses d\u2019eau : approche par adsorption de nanocomposites de biochar), d\u00e9veloppe un mat\u00e9riau composite con\u00e7u sp\u00e9cifiquement pour pi\u00e9ger et d\u00e9truire les contaminants pharmaceutiques.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les chercheurs combinent le biochar, un mat\u00e9riau semblable au charbon de bois produit \u00e0 partir de d\u00e9chets de biomasse, avec des nanoparticules d\u2019oxyde de zinc.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le biochar agit comme une \u00e9ponge, attirant les polluants sur sa surface poreuse, tandis que les nanoparticules les d\u00e9gradent sous l\u2019effet de la lumi\u00e8re via un processus photocatalytique ; un syst\u00e8me \u00e0 double action qui s\u2019attaque aux contaminants que le traitement conventionnel peine \u00e0 \u00e9liminer.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019\u00e9quipe de Mme Saah utilise une m\u00e9thode de synth\u00e8se sans solvant, \u00e9liminant ainsi le besoin de solvants organiques toxiques et co\u00fbteux. C\u2019est un processus plus \u00e9cologique, moins cher et mieux adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 une mise \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle dans des contextes \u00e0 ressources limit\u00e9es. Les premiers r\u00e9sultats sont encourageants : l\u2019\u00e9quipe a produit des nanostructures d\u2019une grande puret\u00e9 et aux formes contr\u00f4l\u00e9es qui augmentent la surface de contact et am\u00e9liorent l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9limination des polluants.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Une avanc\u00e9e significative<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ifeoma Malo, experte ind\u00e9pendante en \u00e9nergie et durabilit\u00e9 et directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale du <a href=\"https:\/\/cleantechnologyhub.com\/\">Clean Technology Hub<\/a>, estime que cette recherche s\u2019attaque directement \u00e0 une cat\u00e9gorie de pollution n\u00e9glig\u00e9e que les syst\u00e8mes existants ne parviennent pas \u00e0 \u00e9liminer.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab Ce qui distingue cette recherche, c\u2019est l\u2019int\u00e9gration d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9e de deux mat\u00e9riaux compl\u00e9mentaires dans un syst\u00e8me composite unique, con\u00e7u sp\u00e9cifiquement pour les r\u00e9sidus pharmaceutiques \u00bb, affirme-t-elle. \u00ab Dans un domaine o\u00f9 de nombreuses technologies sont soit trop co\u00fbteuses, soit trop gourmandes en \u00e9nergie, ou ne sont pas sp\u00e9cifiquement con\u00e7ues pour les contaminants pharmaceutiques, cette approche offre une avanc\u00e9e significative. \u00bb <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mme Malo note que si les nanoparticules d\u2019oxyde de zinc n\u00e9cessitent une manipulation prudente et des \u00e9tudes de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 approfondies, leur fixation sur des matrices stables comme le biochar r\u00e9duit le risque que des particules libres p\u00e9n\u00e8trent dans l\u2019eau trait\u00e9e. \u00ab Nous pr\u00e9conisons une approche de pr\u00e9caution mais progressive qui ne freine pas l\u2019innovation, mais garantit que les \u00e9valuations de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 suivent le rythme du d\u00e9veloppement scientifique \u00bb, ajoute-t-elle. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Du laboratoire au robinet de la communaut\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Des obstacles importants subsistent avant que la technologie ne passe du laboratoire \u00e0 l\u2019usage quotidien, notamment la r\u00e9gularit\u00e9 de la production \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle, la r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration des nanoparticules, l\u2019approbation r\u00e9glementaire et l\u2019acceptation par les communaut\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mme Malo souligne que les progr\u00e8s n\u00e9cessiteront une collaboration entre la chimie, l\u2019ing\u00e9nierie, la sant\u00e9 publique et l\u2019\u00e9laboration des politiques, ainsi que des tests pilotes dans des environnements aquatiques r\u00e9els repr\u00e9sentatifs des conditions au Ghana et dans toute la r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mme Saah explique que ces mat\u00e9riaux pourraient \u00eatre int\u00e9gr\u00e9s dans des unit\u00e9s de filtration simples ou des membranes enduites au niveau des m\u00e9nages ou des communaut\u00e9s, en utilisant des d\u00e9chets agricoles pour le composant biochar et en \u00e9vitant les intrants co\u00fbteux, r\u00e9duisant ainsi la d\u00e9pendance vis-\u00e0-vis des technologies import\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Financement de la SGCI et prochaines \u00e9tapes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le financement de la SGCI a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9terminant pour amener la recherche \u00e0 son stade actuel, en soutenant l\u2019achat d\u2019\u00e9quipement, de mat\u00e9riaux, d\u2019outils de caract\u00e9risation et la formation d\u2019\u00e9tudiants et de chercheurs en d\u00e9but de carri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab Cela a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un environnement propice au renforcement des capacit\u00e9s, garantissant que l\u2019expertise d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e ne reste pas l\u2019apanage d\u2019un seul chercheur mais s\u2019enracine dans la prochaine g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de scientifiques ghan\u00e9ens \u00bb, d\u00e9clare Mme Saah.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les prochaines \u00e9tapes comprennent le d\u00e9veloppement et l\u2019optimisation de composites complets biochar\u2013oxyde de zinc et le passage \u00e0 des tests \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle pilote.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Des partenariats avec l\u2019industrie et les parties prenantes sont \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude pour faciliter le transfert technologique final.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Au-del\u00e0 des perc\u00e9es scientifiques, Mme Saah esp\u00e8re que ses recherches contribueront \u00e0 un avenir o\u00f9 les communaut\u00e9s pourront acc\u00e9der \u00e0 une eau plus propre et plus s\u00fbre gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des technologies d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es en tenant compte des r\u00e9alit\u00e9s locales.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab L\u2019objectif ultime est d\u2019am\u00e9liorer l\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l\u2019eau potable, de r\u00e9duire la pollution environnementale et de soutenir la
