Son \u00e9quipe \u00e9tudie comment les microbes naturellement pr\u00e9sents dans le sol peuvent \u00eatre exploit\u00e9s pour cr\u00e9er un biofertilisant produit localement qui pourrait restaurer la sant\u00e9 des sols, am\u00e9liorer la productivit\u00e9 des cultures et renforcer la r\u00e9silience face au stress climatique. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Comprendre les sols de la Namibie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Lorsque le projet a d\u00e9but\u00e9 en septembre 2024, l\u2019\u00e9quipe a fait une d\u00e9couverte fondamentale qui a orient\u00e9 ses travaux. \u00ab Nous ne connaissions m\u00eame pas la structure de notre sol \u00bb, explique Moola Nyambe. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"464\" src=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Researchers-at-the-soil-collection-site_BODY.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25771\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Researchers-at-the-soil-collection-site_BODY.jpg 450w, https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Researchers-at-the-soil-collection-site_BODY-291x300.jpg 291w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Des chercheurs sur le site de pr\u00e9l\u00e8vement des sols<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00ab Nous savons d\u00e9sormais que les \u00e9chantillons que nous avons collect\u00e9s manquent d\u2019azote et de phosphore. \u00bb Loin d\u2019\u00eatre un revers, cette d\u00e9couverte a apport\u00e9 une plus grande clart\u00e9. <\/p>\n\n<p>En identifiant ces carences, les chercheurs ont pu se concentrer sur l\u2019isolation de micro-organismes capables de reconstituer naturellement ces nutriments, en particulier des bact\u00e9ries fixatrices d\u2019azote qui peuvent enrichir les sols sans avoir recours \u00e0 des intrants chimiques.<\/p>\n\n<p>Ces connaissances s\u2019inscrivent dans les efforts visant \u00e0 r\u00e9duire la d\u00e9pendance de la Namibie \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard des engrais inorganiques import\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Lib\u00e9rer le potentiel microbien<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Au fur et \u00e0 mesure que les recherches progressaient, l\u2019\u00e9quipe a d\u00e9couvert une riche diversit\u00e9 de vie microbienne. Au lieu d\u2019identifier un seul organisme id\u00e9al, elle a trouv\u00e9 plusieurs souches de diff\u00e9rentes classes partageant des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s similaires de promotion de la croissance des plantes. <\/p>\n\n<p>Moola Nyambe pr\u00e9cise que l\u2019\u00e9quipe a d\u00e9j\u00e0 r\u00e9pertori\u00e9 plusieurs groupes microbiens pr\u00e9sentant des traits b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques comparables et s\u2019emploie d\u00e9sormais \u00e0 d\u00e9terminer lesquels sont les plus performants, individuellement ou en combinaison.<\/p>\n\n<p>Certaines de ces souches ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 leur capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 stimuler la croissance des racines, un facteur crucial lors du repiquage des cultures ou de leur croissance dans des sols fragiles. D\u2019autres ont montr\u00e9 une activit\u00e9 antimicrobienne, inhibant la croissance de bact\u00e9ries nocives, tandis que certains isolats ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 une r\u00e9sistance aux antibiotiques, offrant des perspectives sur la survie microbienne. <\/p>\n\n<p>De mani\u00e8re inattendue, deux souches se sont \u00e9galement r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9es capables de produire de la L-asparaginase, une enzyme associ\u00e9e au traitement de la leuc\u00e9mie, ce qui laisse entrevoir des applications potentielles au-del\u00e0 de l\u2019agriculture.<\/p>\n\n<p>Pour la chercheuse, de telles d\u00e9couvertes refl\u00e8tent la nature exploratoire de la science. \u00ab Ce sont des d\u00e9couvertes que nous n\u2019avions pas pr\u00e9vues de faire au d\u00e9part \u00bb, d\u00e9clare-t-elle, \u00ab mais elles nous ouvrent de nouvelles perspectives. \u00bb <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Du laboratoire aux terres agricoles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>La recherche a maintenant atteint une \u00e9tape critique, l\u2019\u00e9quipe travaillant \u00e0 la formulation d\u2019un biofertilisant au niveau du laboratoire.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/The-different-microbes-samples_BODY.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25772\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/The-different-microbes-samples_BODY.jpg 450w, https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/The-different-microbes-samples_BODY-300x245.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Les diff\u00e9rents \u00e9chantillons de microbes<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019aide d\u2019une solution liquide de microbes, les chercheurs testent plusieurs souches pour d\u00e9terminer la formulation la plus efficace avant de les combiner dans un produit final.<\/p>\n\n<p>Les premiers essais sur des cultures telles que le ma\u00efs et le mil \u00e0 chandelle ont donn\u00e9 des r\u00e9sultats prometteurs, mais le passage du succ\u00e8s en laboratoire \u00e0 l\u2019application pratique pr\u00e9sente ses propres d\u00e9fis. Comme la plupart des agriculteurs d\u00e9pendent des pr\u00e9cipitations, les essais sur le terrain doivent s\u2019aligner sur le calendrier agricole. <\/p>\n\n<p>\u00ab M\u00eame lorsque le travail en laboratoire est pr\u00eat, nous devons encore attendre la saison des labours \u00bb, explique Moola Nyambe, soulignant les r\u00e9alit\u00e9s de la transposition de la science dans la pratique. Si les engrais inorganiques peuvent donner des r\u00e9sultats rapides, leurs impacts environnementaux \u00e0 long terme sont significatifs, tandis que les biofertilisants, bien que plus lents \u00e0 agir, offrent des avantages durables en am\u00e9liorant la structure et la biodiversit\u00e9 des sols. <\/p>\n\n<p>Une production locale permettrait \u00e9galement de r\u00e9duire les co\u00fbts, rendant les engrais plus accessibles aux agriculteurs tout en renfor\u00e7ant l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance agricole du pays, ajoute-t-elle.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Renforcer la r\u00e9silience climatique<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>La pertinence du projet est particuli\u00e8rement \u00e9vidente dans le contexte du changement climatique. Dans l\u2019environnement semi-aride de la Namibie, o\u00f9 les pr\u00e9cipitations sont limit\u00e9es et souvent impr\u00e9visibles, la qualit\u00e9 du sol joue un r\u00f4le d\u00e9cisif dans la r\u00e9ussite agricole. <\/p>\n\n<p>Les biofertilisants microbiens aident \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer la structure du sol, lui permettant de retenir l\u2019eau pendant de plus longues p\u00e9riodes, garantissant ainsi que les pr\u00e9cipitations ne se perdent pas rapidement par \u00e9vaporation. Parall\u00e8lement, les micro-organismes renforcent la capacit\u00e9 des plantes \u00e0 tol\u00e9rer le stress environnemental en produisant des hormones de croissance et des compos\u00e9s protecteurs. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"996\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Dr-Nyambe-and-team_BODY.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25774\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Dr-Nyambe-and-team_BODY.jpg 996w, https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Dr-Nyambe-and-team_BODY-300x101.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Dr-Nyambe-and-team_BODY-768x259.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 996px) 100vw, 996px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Le Dr Nyambe et son \u00e9quipe<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Cela permet aux cultures de r\u00e9sister \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse, aux fluctuations de temp\u00e9rature et \u00e0 d\u2019autres conditions difficiles, tout en favorisant des cycles de croissance plus rapides, un avantage important dans les r\u00e9gions o\u00f9 les saisons de croissance sont courtes.<\/p>\n\n<p>Comme l\u2019a dit Moola Nyambe : \u00ab Plus le temps de r\u00e9colte est court, mieux c\u2019est \u00bb, en particulier dans les environnements o\u00f9 chaque fen\u00eatre de pluie compte.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\u00c9tendre l\u2019impact au-del\u00e0 de la Namibie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Au-del\u00e0 de ses contributions scientifiques, le projet renforce \u00e9galement les capacit\u00e9s de recherche et favorise la collaboration. Le financement de la SGCI a permis l\u2019acquisition de mat\u00e9riel de laboratoire essentiel, a soutenu des partenariats transfrontaliers avec des chercheurs zambiens et a offert des opportunit\u00e9s de formation \u00e0 des \u00e9tudiants de premier cycle et de troisi\u00e8me cycle. <\/p>\n\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019avenir, l\u2019impact potentiel s\u2019\u00e9tendra au-del\u00e0 de la Namibie. L\u2019approche est hautement adaptable \u00e0 des zones agro\u00e9cologiques similaires \u00e0 travers l\u2019Afrique australe, offrant un mod\u00e8le \u00e9volutif pour am\u00e9liorer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire et promouvoir une agriculture durable dans la r\u00e9gion. <\/p>\n\n<p>Pour l\u2019instant, l\u2019objectif reste toutefois de prouver que la solution fonctionne l\u00e0 o\u00f9 elle est la plus n\u00e9cessaire. \u00ab Si nous pouvons d\u00e9montrer cela dans des conditions agricoles r\u00e9elles \u00bb, d\u00e9clare Moola Nyambe, \u00ab alors nous aurons une solution pratique, abordable et v\u00e9ritablement la n\u00f4tre. \u00bb <\/p>\n\n<p><em>Consultez les <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/sgciafrica.org\/fr\/actualites\/\"><em>histoires<\/em><\/a><em> et dites-nous ce que vous en pensez.
