Pour l\u2019Afrique, l\u2019avertissement est particuli\u00e8rement urgent.<\/p>\n\n<p>Sur l&rsquo;ensemble du continent, les syst\u00e8mes alimentaires sont soumis \u00e0 la pression du changement climatique, des chocs \u00e9conomiques et de l&rsquo;instabilit\u00e9 politique.<\/p>\n\n<p>Ces d\u00e9fis qui se chevauchent font qu&rsquo;il est plus difficile pour les gouvernements de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 l&rsquo;augmentation des besoins alimentaires ou d&rsquo;investir dans des solutions \u00e0 long terme.<\/p>\n\n<p>Dans cet \u00e9pisode d&rsquo;Africa Science Focus, le journaliste Michael Kaloki explore la mani\u00e8re dont la recherche et les donn\u00e9es probantes peuvent aider \u00e0 construire des syst\u00e8mes alimentaires plus r\u00e9silients, plus inclusifs et mieux pr\u00e9par\u00e9s aux chocs futurs.<\/p>\n\n<p>Steven Omamo, directeur des strat\u00e9gies de d\u00e9veloppement et de la gouvernance \u00e0 l&rsquo;Institut international de recherche sur les politiques alimentaires (IFPRI), explique que de nombreux pays africains disposent d\u00e9j\u00e0 de politiques alimentaires, mais qu&rsquo;une mauvaise mise en \u0153uvre et des investissements insuffisants continuent de les compromettre.<\/p>\n\n<p>Il souligne la valeur de la science pour guider les syst\u00e8mes d&rsquo;alerte pr\u00e9coce, promouvoir les cultures tol\u00e9rantes au stress, stimuler la production locale et soutenir <strong>les r\u00e9ponses communautaires<\/strong> aux perturbations caus\u00e9es par le climat et les conflits.<\/p>\n\n<p>Sp\u00e9cialiste des syst\u00e8mes alimentaires, Jane Battersby, professeure associ\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uct.ac.za\/\">Universit\u00e9 du Cap<\/a>, appelle \u00e0 recentrer l\u2019attention sur l\u2019ins\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire en milieu urbain. Elle explique que, si l\u2019on s\u2019int\u00e9resse \u00e0 la faim dans les zones rurales, un grand nombre de personnes en situation d\u2019ins\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire vivent en ville, souvent dans des quartiers informels o\u00f9 la nourriture est disponible, mais inabordable. <\/p>\n\n<p>Zippy Ondisa Shiyoya, directeur de l&rsquo;Institut des professionnels de l&#8217;emballage du Kenya, explique qu&rsquo;une mauvaise coordination, des co\u00fbts politiques \u00e9lev\u00e9s et des donn\u00e9es peu fiables sont autant d&rsquo;obstacles \u00e0 des strat\u00e9gies alimentaires efficaces.<\/p>\n\n<p>Elle explique comment la science sous-tend la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et la qualit\u00e9 des aliments, depuis la production jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la distribution, la consommation et la collecte de donn\u00e9es.
