Selon l&rsquo;UNICEF, environ 70 % de l&rsquo;eau consomm\u00e9e est contamin\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n<p>Selon l&rsquo;agence des Nations unies pour l&rsquo;enfance, 117 000 enfants de moins de cinq ans meurent chaque ann\u00e9e au Nigeria des suites de maladies d&rsquo;origine hydrique, soit le nombre le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 de tous les pays du monde.<\/p>\n\n<p>Pour r\u00e9soudre ce probl\u00e8me dans les zones rurales et urbaines, les chercheurs ont mis au point un dispositif de filtration aliment\u00e9 par l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie solaire, qui peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 m\u00eame dans les zones o\u00f9 l&rsquo;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 est limit\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n<p>L\u2019appareil utilise un biocapteur pour d\u00e9tecter les organismes nocifs, tandis qu\u2019un syst\u00e8me de filtration \u00e0 trois couches exploite les rayons ultraviolets pour purifier l\u2019eau et \u00e9liminer tout germe dangereux.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00ab Notre objectif est de pr\u00e9venir les maladies d\u2019origine hydrique et les d\u00e9c\u00e8s \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Victor Nwaugo, chercheur principal et professeur de pollution environnementale et de sant\u00e9 publique \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00c9tat d\u2019Abia, au Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Le dispositif de biocapteur purifie l&rsquo;eau et la rend potable \u00e0 tout moment.<\/p>\n\n<p>Selon les <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/nigeria\/media\/5956\/file\/2021WASHNORM%20Infographics.pdf\">chiffres officiels,<\/a> seuls 10 % de la population nig\u00e9riane ont acc\u00e8s \u00e0 des services de base en mati\u00e8re d&rsquo;eau, d&rsquo;assainissement et d&rsquo;hygi\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Les habitants des zones rurales sont trois fois plus d\u00e9favoris\u00e9s que ceux des zones urbaines\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 M. Nwaugo.<\/p>\n\n<p>Selon lui, le filtre \u00e0 biocapteur, durable et facile \u00e0 utiliser, permettra aux habitants de ces zones rurales d&rsquo;avoir acc\u00e8s \u00e0 de l&rsquo;eau potable, r\u00e9duisant ainsi le risque de contracter des maladies d&rsquo;origine hydrique.<\/p>\n\n<p>Contrairement aux solutions existantes qui reposent sur l&rsquo;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 du r\u00e9seau et une simple filtration, l&rsquo;appareil combine la d\u00e9tection des germes et la purification en plusieurs \u00e9tapes, en utilisant uniquement l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie solaire.<\/p>\n\n<p>Le dispositif peut \u00eatre raccord\u00e9 aux robinets des habitations urbaines ou aux cours d&rsquo;eau, principale source d&rsquo;eau des communaut\u00e9s rurales.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-research-for-impact\"><strong>La recherche au service de l&rsquo;impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Le projet, soutenu par une subvention de 250 000 dollars de la Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI), refl\u00e8te un changement dans la culture de la recherche au Nigeria, selon M. Nwaugo.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Auparavant, nous faisions de la recherche en vue d&rsquo;une publication, mais aujourd&rsquo;hui, nous faisons de la recherche en vue d&rsquo;un impact sur la soci\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n<p>Le filtre biocapteur de M. Nwaugo et de son \u00e9quipe a attir\u00e9 l&rsquo;attention en f\u00e9vrier dernier lors de l&rsquo;initiative Research for Impact (R4i), organis\u00e9e par le Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), un organisme nig\u00e9rian charg\u00e9 de financer l&rsquo;enseignement sup\u00e9rieur et de soutenir les initiatives de recherche.<\/p>\n\n<p>Hadiza Ismail, directrice adjointe du centre de recherche et de d\u00e9veloppement du TETFund, explique que le programme R4i vise \u00e0 donner aux chercheurs les moyens de transformer les r\u00e9sultats de leurs recherches en solutions innovantes pour r\u00e9soudre des probl\u00e8mes concrets.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;initiative aidera les chercheurs \u00e0 commercialiser leurs travaux et \u00e0 avoir un impact sur la soci\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n<p>Moses Olutoye, professeur de g\u00e9nie chimique sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 dans la recherche sur les \u00e9nergies renouvelables \u00e0 l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 f\u00e9d\u00e9rale de technologie de Minna, au Nigeria, a salu\u00e9 cette innovation.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;\u00e9nergie solaire est abondante et ne demande qu&rsquo;\u00e0 \u00eatre exploit\u00e9e \u00e0 des fins individuelles, domestiques et industrielles\u00a0\u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;\u00e9nergie solaire peut aider les Nig\u00e9rians et les chercheurs \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 leurs besoins \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques. Elle permettra aux gens de ne plus \u00eatre traumatis\u00e9s par le manque d&rsquo;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 et les fr\u00e9quentes pannes du r\u00e9seau national.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scaling-up\"><strong>Augmentation de l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Les chercheurs esp\u00e8rent commercialiser leur produit dans les mois \u00e0 venir et travaillent avec le gouvernement de l&rsquo;\u00c9tat d&rsquo;Abia pour trouver des entrepreneurs capables de fabriquer l&rsquo;appareil.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Nous sommes \u00e9galement en pourparlers avec la chambre de commerce d&rsquo;Aba et la chambre de commerce d&rsquo;Umuahia afin de poursuivre notre expansion\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 M.
