DIES/CREST Online training course for Supervisors of Doctoral candidates at African universities

The Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST) at Stellenbosch University and Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies Programme (DIES) has developed, and is offering a fully online course targeting novice doctoral supervisors.  This DIES/CREST course offers a flexible study opportunity to academic staff members, particularly novice doctoral supervisors, who are interested to advance their knowledge, skills and networks in doctoral supervision. The course will address important topics such as the nature of the doctorate, models of supervision, the relationship between the doctoral candidate and the supervisor, the guidance that the supervisor must give to a doctoral candidate throughout the doctoral process and more. Successful participants will receive a Certificate of Competence issued by Stellenbosch University. The course will be presented over eight weeks (from 15 October to 8 December 2018), followed by a practical assignment (due 21 January 2019).
