​Building partnerships and networks amongst science granting councils and other science system actors by planning and organising Annual Regional Meetings and Annual Forums in order to achieve increasingly coordinated and networked Councils in Africa. These meetings are organised in partnership with the African Union Commission - New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUC-NEPAD), science granting councils, a​​nd Africa’s Regional Economic Communities.​​ ​

Hosted by an SGCI participating council, Ghana’s Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), in collaboration with SGCI Collaborating Technical Agencies (CTA), the ATPS - African Technology Policy Studies Network and Scinnovent Centre, the meeting themed “research and innovation for job creation” saw the official launch of the Ghana Innovation and Research Commercialization Centre (GIRC).
